Susan Shifflett

Susan Shifflett, Executive Director of Texas Hydrogen Alliance

Susan M. Shifflett has worked in the Clean Fuel markets for more than 25 years.  Currently, Mrs. Shifflett serves as the Executive Director of the Texas Hydrogen Alliance.  Previously, she served as President of the Texas Clean Fuels Alliance, formerly the Texas Natural Gas Vehicle Alliance. Mrs. Shifflett focused on developing new and expanding natural gas transportation markets and refueling stations in the State of Texas using industry initiatives, government programs, energy education and community relations.  She worked closely with her Alliance members to craft and promote natural gas legislation in Austin and Washington DC. Her company, S3 Services provides safety training, permitting assistance, and grant writing to private and public companies making the switch to cleaner sustainable fuels.  Additional work experience includes marketing coordinator for the Alternative Fuels Research and Education Division at the Railroad Commission of Texas and the Dallas Fort Worth Clean Cities Coordinator for the North Central Texas Council of Governments.


 

Greg Matlock

Greg Matlock, Global Energy & Resources Industry Tax Leader, EY

Greg Matlock is a Partner/Principal in EY’s National Tax Department (Houston based) and serves as EY’s Americas Energy Transition and Renewable Energy Leader.  Greg has significant experience throughout the energy transition spectrum, with a particular emphasis on carbon capture use and sequestration projects (point source, as well as direct air capture), as well as hydrogen (blue, green and other variants), and other energy-transition related asset classes.  Greg teaches Energy Taxation at the University of Houston Law School, and he recently rejoined EY from Mayer Brown, where he served as a Partner and the Global Energy Tax and Energy Transition Leader.  Greg is a frequent speaker (and writer) on energy and energy tax issues.


 

Matt Kittel

Matt Kittell, Director, SOCIÉTÉ GÉNÉRALE

Matt Kittell is a Director with Societe Generale’s Sustainable Finance team where advises clients on energy transition financing, including CCUS and hydrogen, with an emphasis on public / private partnerships. Matt joined Societe Generale in April 2023 after fifteen years with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Loan Programs Office where he worked on energy transition project finance.


 

Kaushik Rajashekara

Kaushik Rajashekara, University Professor, University of Houston

Dr. Kaushik Rajashekara received his BE, ME, and PhD from Indian Institute of Science. He joined Delphi division of General Motors Corporation in Indianapolis, IN, USA as a staff project engineer in 1989. In Delphi and General Motors, he held various lead technical and managerial positions, and was a Technical Fellow and the Chief Scientist for developing propulsion for electric, hybrid, and fuel cell vehicle systems. In 2006, he joined Rolls-Royce Corporation as a Chief Technologist for More Electric Architectures and power conversion/control technologies for Electric, More Electric, and Hybrid Electric Aircrafts. In August 2012, he joined as a Distinguished Professor of Engineering at the University of Texas at Dallas. Since September 2016, he is a Distinguished Professor of Engineering in University of Houston. Prof. Rajashekara was elected as a Member of the US National Academy of Engineering in 2012, Indian National Academy of Engineering in 2013, and Chinese National Academy of Engineering in 2021 for his contributions to electric power conversion systems in transportation. He is a recipient of the 2022 Global Energy Prize, 2021 IEEE Medal on Environmental and Safety Technologies, and 2013 Richard Kaufmann award, and several other awards. He has published more than 250 papers in international journals and conferences, has 37 U.S. and 15 foreign patents; and has written one book, and contributed individual chapters to 8 books.


 

Michael Dwinnell

Michael Dwinnell, Executive Director, Texas Hydrogen Association

Mr. Dwinnell is the Director of the Texas Hydrogen Association and has been affiliated with the American Hydrogen Association since 1990.  He has 35 years of experience in top management positions at multiple energy companies in the US, directing private equity investments in the upstream sector of the oil and gas industry.  Mr. Dwinnell recently assisted in the creation and successful launch of an energy sector SPAC funding $172.5 MM at IPO on NASDAQ (SYM: CENQU).


 

Jeffrey Goldmeer

Dr Jeffrey Goldmeer, Global Hydrogen Value Chain Leader, GE Vernova

Dr. Jeffrey Goldmeer is the Global Hydrogen Value Chain Leader at GE Vernova. He is also co-creator and co-host of GE’s award-winning decarbonization podcast, Cutting Carbon, which has over 80,000 downloads in more than 140 countries. (ge.com/gas-power/future-of-energy/cutting-carbon) Dr. Goldmeer brings more than 20 years of experience in the energy industry and is a global expert in the use of alternative fuels for power generation. Prior to his current role, he was the Emergent Technologies Director at GE Gas Power, where he was responsible for developing and executing strategies for the decarbonization of gas turbine-based power plants. Notable achievements include first of a kind operation of Aeroderivative, F-class and H-class gas turbines on blends of hydrogen and natural gas. Dr. Goldmeer holds 13 patents on a variety of combustion and propulsion related technologies, has over 100 conference papers/presentations, and has contributed to three recent books on hydrogen and renewable fuels. His 2014 paper on the use of Arabian Super Light crude oil as a power generation fuel for F-class gas turbines in Saudi Arabia was recognized with the best paper award at PowerGen International. Prior to joining GE, Dr. Goldmeer was a Senior Research Scientist at Southwest Sciences and was a National Research Council Research Associate at the NASA Glenn Research Center. Dr. Goldmeer received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Case Western Reserve University and his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.


 

Maryam Mkhani

Dr Maryam Mkhani, Director, CCUS Technology Integration - Global CCUS Growth, Worley 

Dr. Maryam MKhani has over 25 years of research, concept-, technology- and business development expertise in the energy and energy-intensive industry, with start-ups, academia, energy- as well as professional service companies. She has diverse carbon capture experience including Direct Air Capture technology development, technology scouting, evaluation and implementation for carbon capture from point sources across multiple industrial sectors both for commercial and emerging, leading-edge technologies. In her current role as a CCUS Director at Worley, Maryam is working on technical and commercial aspects of CCUS portfolio to integrate innovative solutions across the value chain. She has been selected as 1 of 100 women for the Women in Energy Transformation (WiET) series in Canada. She is also holding an Adjunct Assistant Professor appointment at Schulich School of Engineering, University of Calgary, where she contributes to teaching graduate courses such as “CO2 Capture, Utilization and Storage”.


 

Carlos Gamarra

Dr Carlos Gamarra, Clean Energy Director, Houston Advanced Research Center

Dr. Carlos Gamarra is the Clean Energy Director at HARC and the Director of the DOE’s Southcentral Onsite Energy TAP. Dr. Gamarra began his career in the energy industry in 2006 as an electrical engineer in the design and construction of industrial plants, energy infrastructure, and renewable power generation systems. His experience as an Assistant Professor at the University of Burgos in 2008 increased his interest in research. But before joining the research field in 2011, he worked in the energy optimization of industrial facilities. He joined HARC in 2017 with a research focus on developing methods, algorithms, and tools to improve decision making in energy systems planning processes. Carlos received his Doctorate in Community Energy Systems Planning from the University of Burgos in 2020, where he developed a rapid method system to analyze microgrids to ensure maximum long-term profitability. Dr. Gamarra is the Energy Manager of the HARC Living Lab, a mid-size commercial office building certified LEED Platinum, Zero Energy Certification, and an Energy Star Rating of 99. The facility is a living lab where different technologies and operation strategies are tested and showcased for other users to adopt. The building has received over 3,000 visitors during the first three years of operations.


 

Kevin Lauzze

Kevin Lauzze, Senior Vice President and Project Director, Sargent & Lundy

Kevin Lauzze is a Senior Vice President and Project Director at Sargent & Lundy.  He received a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology prior to joining Sargent & Lundy.  Kevin is currently responsible for overseeing and developing the carbon capture, utilization and storage work performed by Sargent & Lundy. He is a part of the overall S&L decarbonization team that looks at providing an all of the above solution to the challenges that exist in the power industry.


 

Danielle Flagg

Danielle Flagg, Senior Manager, Sargent & Lundy

Danielle Flagg is a senior manager in S&L’s Energy and Industrial Group and is a registered professional chemical engineer with over 15 years of experience. In her current role, Danielle oversees and coordinates S&L’s involvement with all project development related to the carbon capture, utilization, and storage in both the power and industrial markets. Danielle has served as the project manager for power and industrial projects, worked on numerous environmental control projects for power plants focused on SO2, NOX, mercury, and CO2, and has been involved in a large number of CO2 capture studies and estimates spanning various technologies and facility types.
