Dr. Nitin Tople is a seasoned technology leader with deep expertise in chemical engineering, sustainability, and process innovation. With a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and an MBA from the Kelley School of Business, he has led cutting-edge technology development and commercialization efforts across the specialty chemicals and materials sectors. Currently serving as the US Technology Manager at Johnson Matthey, he spearheads the development of next-generation platinum group metals refining and catalyst technologies and plays a key role in JM’s initiative on fuel cell and electrolyzer component recycling. He leads the technical teams responsible for the development and commercialization of JM’s HyRefine™ (Hydrogen Technology Recycling) platform, and is JM’s primary representative for the H2CIRC consortium which is a US DOE funded initiative for the same.
Prior to working at Johnson Matthey, Dr. Tople spent over a decade at SABIC, where he led process technology and scale-up efforts for specialty chemicals and polymers, including the development of a bio-based and sustainable polymer solution. He drove multiple projects at the intersection of circular economy, supply chain risk mitigation, and continuous improvement in manufacturing, including developing a solvent-free melt process for high-performance polymers. He was part of the team that won the R&D 100 Award in 2021 in the Materials category for commercialization of a specialty dianhydride product. With 10 patent applications and a track record of driving sustainable innovations, Dr. Tople brings a wealth of knowledge on circular economy strategies and scalable solutions in the specialty materials field.
