‘NORTHERN PIONEER’ the liquefied CO2 carrier is now ready for delivery to Northern Lights
It has been announced that “K” LINE LNG Shipping (UK) Ltd will be in charge of managing the vessel that is part of the world’s first full-scale CCS value chain project. “K” LINE LNG Shipping (UK) Ltd. is based in London.
Right now, the “K” LINE group is working hard to promote various initiative that are all aimed at supporting their own decarbonisation efforts, as well as the efforts of society. All of the initiatives that the “K” LINE group is supporting, align with the “K” LINE Environmental Vision 2050.
Recently, “K” LINE and Northern Lights agreed to a bareboat charter contract, along with a time charter contract. These contracts surround three of the four vessels that have been ordered by Northern Lights.
In order to make the recently built liquefied CO2 carrier’s readiness for delivery to Northern Lights, a ceremony was conducted at Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co. The vessel that has been constructed will be responsible for transporting liquefied CO2 from a CO2 capture facility which is based in Norway, to Norther Lights, where it will be received at a terminal in western Norway, specifically Øygarden.
Altogether, the vessel that has been constructed has a cargo tank capacity of 7,500 m3, has wind-assisted rotor sail and air lubrication and finally, it primarily operates on a fuel of LNG.

Managing Director of Northern Lights, Tim Heijn, mentioned, “This is a great moment for Northern Lights and the CCS industry. Today we celebrate that the full transport and storage chain of Northern Lights CO2 is ready. Northern Pioneer and her sister ships will enable flexible and scalable CO2 transport across Europe.”
