The Middle East will host a building-integrated microalgae CO2 capture project

The world’s first integrated microalgae-sequestered carbon capture technology, is due to be deployed across the Middle East and India. This technology will be provided by Aarksee Group and Soletair Power, who have created a strategic alliance for this project.

Through working together, the companies have combined two complimentary technologies. These technologies are, Soletair Power's patented Building-integrated Direct Air Capture (DAC) system and Aarksee's microalgae-based carbon sequestration and green mineralisation techniques.

Soletair Power’s technology works through extracting carbon dioxide from the air, through the use of existing HVAC infrastructure. Combining this technology with Aarksee’s techniques, the companies will be able to offer a holistic approach to carbon reduction and this approach should be able to operate within existing building systems, whilst also creating valuable by products.

Altogether, the aim for this integrated solution, is to target high-impact sectors, such as construction, real estate, airports, industrial manufacturing, and transportation. For this to happen, the initial deployment will be completely focused on GCC countries which have extreme climates. From there, the project will move to India, as this is where diverse environmental conditions will effectively create challenges and opportunities when it comes to pushing innovation around carbon capture forwards.

The next steps for this partnership, is to focus on creating a comprehensive carbon methodology, which can then be registered with an international registry. This would ensure that the solutions the company develops, meet global standards for both verification and implementation. Altogether, this excellent and innovative framework will facilitate rapid scaling throughout a variety of sectors, whilst also supporting the ambitious climate targets which were set out by the region.

CEO of Soletair Power, Petri Laakso, commented, "This partnership directly addresses the unique cooling challenges in the Middle East's extreme climate. Building on our Power-to-X demonstration success at Expo 2020 Dubai, we're now poised to simultaneously reduce HVAC energy consumption and create negative emissions across the region."

CSO of Aarksee Group, Dr. Senthil Chinnasamy, added, "By integrating our nature-based solutions with Soletair Power's advanced technology, we are creating a unique carbon capture ecosystem that does not just reduce emissions—it transforms them into sustainable resources while supporting the circular economy."
