ENKA and EET Hydrogen have created a partnership over delivering low carbon hydrogen production to the UK

ENKA and EET Hydrogen have signed an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract, which will allow them to focus on creating a low carbon hydrogen production plant (HPP1). This project will be taking place in Cheshire, specifically at the Stanlow Manufacturing Complex in Ellesmere Port.

ENKA is a well-known global engineering and construction firm, which has its headquarters based in Istanbul, Turkey. It is in these areas that this company is ranked within these country’s most valuable brands. This company has a direct interest in engineering and construction, as well as power generation, real estate and finally trade. In the UK, the company is most commonly known for its flagship projects such as, the Hinkley Point Power Plant in Somerset, as well as the Shotton Mill Paper Mill Factory in Flintshire.

This project highlights a huge step forwards for the HPP1 project, as well as the UK hydrogen industry and finally the HyNet Cluster. The project also showcases EET Hydrogen’s progress towards its goal around developing 4GW of low carbon hydrogen production. This part of EET Hydrogen’s project is focused on producing the low carbon hydrogen for industrial businesses which are based throughout the North West of England. This is their current aim, as EET Hydrogen is aiming to find a way to decarbonise these businesses operations, whilst simultaneously protecting jobs and finally, driving economic growth.

It was back in October of 2024 when the UK Government announced that they would be providing funding in order to support HPP1, as this project would be the UK’s first large-scale low carbon hydrogen project and it would be based right at the core of the HyNet Cluster. So far, it has been stated that HPP1 will have a production capacity of around 350MW and it will be able to capture an estimated 600,000 tonnes of CO2 every year.

CEO of EET Hydrogen, Joe Seifert, commented, “Following a highly competitive tender process, we are excited to announce this critical contract with ENKA. Having been awarded over 580 contracts in 57 countries, ENKA has an excellent track record in delivering complex projects like HPP1. The team brings a wealth of experience, and we are delighted to partner with as we deliver on our ambition to become the UK’s premier producer of low carbon hydrogen.”

Member of the Executive Committee at ENKA, Hakan Kozan, added, “We are thrilled to partner with EET Hydrogen on the HPP1 project, a transformative initiative that will play a key role in advancing the UK’s low carbon hydrogen industry and contributing to global decarbonisation efforts. As a global engineering and construction company, we bring expertise, engineered solutions, and a commitment to excellence to every project we undertake. This project reinforces our commitment to supporting the HyNet Cluster’s mission of reducing emissions and fostering sustainable economic growth. We look forward to delivering a safe and successful project for our distinguished customer.”
