A Joint Development Project has begun for a techno-economic analysis of CCS implementation aboard bulk carriers. This project involves DNV and SDTR Marine and will see both parties working collaboratively on this analysis.

The point of this project is to study and evaluate the economic viability and differences between a variety of fuel and technology approaches, whilst applying varying fuel and Co2 price scenarios. This experiment has been modeled off of the DNV’s FuelPath and this model will account for both future decarbonisation mandates, as well as Singapore-based SDTR Marine’s emission targets. These statistics will also take into account the ship owner’s drive to improve energy efficiency and their contribution towards the decarbonisation of the shipping industry.

This project highlights the interest CCS has gained recently, through this industry’s continued interest in reducing its carbon footprint through a multitude of ways. The industry and companies involved in the industry are all clearly willing to continue their work with older and more ‘reliable’ methods for carbon capture, as well as working on new and innovative techniques which have the potential to accelerate the process. This interest in new and innovative techniques is the focus for this collaboration between DNV and SDTR Marine.
