BASF has made an agreement with Enerflex to collaborate on a CCUS project

A new MoU has been created between Enerflex and BASF and this agreement states that the two companies will work together and combine their technology to focus on flue gas and post-combustion CO2 capture.

BASF is well-known as an established leader in the field of carbon capture technology and this is shown through the company having five-hundred plants. On the other hand, Enerflex has already been involved in more than one-hundred and fifty CCUS projects, which have been capturing five million tonnes of carbon dioxide on an annual basis for the last four decades.

The plan for these two companies, which has been formed through the creation of the MoU, is to facilitate the commercial scale deployment of CCUS projects. To do this, the parties have outlined their plan to combine Enerflex’s expertise in engineering, manufacturing and finally, integration of gas processing and compressions systems, with BASF’s proprietary OASE® blue technology. This technology is used for flue gas and post-combustion CO2 capture.

The innovative OASE® blue technology is BASF’s gas treatment technology, which includes low energy consumption, low solvent losses and a flexible operating range. This technology is cleverly designed to meet the unique challenges which were created by the contaminants that were found in flue gas sources from fossil-fuel power plants, as well as, steam reformers, boilers, waste incinerators, cement and steel industries.

President and CEO of Enerflex, Marc Rossiter, commented, “This collaboration with BASF exemplifies our commitment to sustainable energy and finding innovative solutions to meet our client partners’ decarbonization goals. By collaborating with BASF, we expect to further optimize the development of economical CCUS solutions, in line with our vision of Transforming Energy for a Sustainable Future.”

Senior Vice President, Intermediates North America of BASF, Fransis Chadikun, mentioned, “We offer an excellent suite of gas treatment solutions under the OASE brand to support Enerflex and the growing interest in carbon capture solutions. With OASE blue, BASF provides a technology for capturing CO2 from sources like power plants and industrial facilities. We have an extensive and long-standing experience in gas treatment, contributing to sustainability goals through carbon capture and storage applications.”
