Essar Oil UK Limited selected the BELCO® wet scrubbing technology to provide the flue gas cleaning system as part of the EET Industrial Carbon Capture Plant at the Stanlow refinery. Flue gas from the refinery’s fluidized catalytic cracking unit (FCCU) is cleaned and cooled with a BELCO® system to meet the stringent inlet requirements of the downstream carbon capture unit (CCU).The BELCO® system uses a proprietary spray tower design with an integrated wet electrostatic precipitator (WESP).
HOW IT WORKS:
• Hot, dirty flue gas enters the scrubber though a horizontal inlet
• Buffered water sprays in an open spray tower to quench/saturate the hot flue gas and provide direct contact cooling
• SOx and large particulate are removed with the sprays
• Fine particulate, mist and aerosols are removed with the integrated WESP
• Clean, cool flue gas exits to the CCU
